JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a skilled Firmware Engineer who, along with our excellent development team, will be responsible for designing and developing firmware architecture and new applications.  Your duties will primarily revolve around building firmware by writing code, as well as modifying firmware to fix errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces. Duties will also include but are not limited to developing firmware system validation and testing methods, as well as supporting our software programming initiatives. You will also be working closely with cross-functional departments to communicate project statuses and proposals. You will also be working with customers or departments on technical issues including firmware system design and maintenance.

To be successful in this role, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science  or another related field is required. You will need extensive knowledge of programming languages and the firmware development life-cycle. You will also need at least ten years of firmware engineering or firmware development experience, preferably in a related field to be successful in this role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience in development of applications using C, C++, Python languages.
  • Experience with different interface communication interfaces such as UART, RS232, RS-485, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and BLE.
  • Good understanding of communications networks, network switches, routers, and gateways, socket programming, unicast and multicast communication.
  • Experience in designing firmware using one or more of the lighting control communication protocols such as DMX/RDM, Art Net, sACN is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of electronic circuits and components. Ability to read and understand the schematic, device functions such A/D, D/A, LCDs, encoders. Good understanding of PWM applications, power sequencing, power management, timing analysis, and hardware debugging.
  • Debug software/firmware using terminals, emulators, analyzers, simulators, etc.
  • Modifying firmware to fix errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces.
  • Developing system testing and validation procedures.
  • Responsible for firmware programming and documentation development.
  • Consulting with departments on project status and proposals.
  • Working with customers or departments on technical issues including firmware system design and maintenance.
  • Consulting with engineering staff to evaluate firmware-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements.
  • Designing and developing firmware systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and design consequences.
  • Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status.
  • Conferring with project managers to obtain information on limitations or capabilities.
  • Design and develop a processing platform using various configuration management technologies.
  • Test firmware development methodology in an agile environment.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for the firmware development lifecycle.
  • Communicating key project data to team members and building cohesion among teams.
  • Developing and executing project plans.
  • Applying best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Shaping the future of our systems.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related degree.
  • 10 years experience with firmware development, with a minimum of 5 years experience as a lead firmware engineer or developer.
