As many of you may know, LiteGear Inc. is an IATSE Local 728 union signatory company. This allows us to hire skilled lighting professional to do all sorts of projects. Well, today Local 728 is two members larger. Yes, that’s right, 2 of our very own were sworn-in today at the member meeting. First up is our lead shop tech, Sean Goossen. Sean has been working with us for less than a year but fits into the lighting business perfectly. After a couple of year in military college, Sean keeps our shop running properly with a welcome discipline. Next, my close friend and head of our Engineering Department, Alex Vazquez. Alex is an industry veteran having worked with Wally Mills at Cinemills on the classic “Silver Bullet” HMI light. He and I worked closely during our time at Mole Richardson Co in the early 2000′s. Together we created just about every modern product line they are still selling including Molescent BIAX, DayLite Pars, Tungsten Pars, and the latest line of Power Distro. And if this is not impressive enough, Alex then accepted an offer from Frieder Hochheim at Kino Flo. He worked on the Tegra 4 bank as well as being the head mechanical guy on the new LED Celeb 200. Attention fellow IATSE Local 728 members! Safety & Training Director, Alan Rowe has once again organized an LED Assembly / Fixtures Class. It will be held August 18, 2012 at the LiteGear Shop. Although we had been involved in this class last year, this year will be the very first (of many) LiteGear Seminars here at our new home in Burbank. Along with Alan, we would like to invite all Local 728 members to attend the all-day class. Refreshment, snacks and lunch will be provided. Space is limited so sign up now!

Class Description:

LED technology has great advantages to our CLTs and fixture technicians. These low voltage, low profile, light sources can be assembled into small spaces and devices where conventional lighting is not possible. This class focuses specifically on using LED Technology to assemble both functional light sources and on-camera fixtures. These low power, high intensity lights can give a creative gaffer tremendous versatility in lighting a set. This class covers topics that are listed in the content outline for the ETCP Entertainment Electrician Certification Exam.

Comic-Con 2012 was in full swing this past weekend and with the success of the recent Avengers movie, Marvel Studios is certainly attracting a lot of attention. As many of you know LiteGear has been involved in providing lighting gear and services to Marvel movies since IronMan 1. Movies that followed were IronMan 2, Thor, Captain America and others. We have been very fortunate to have also become involved in the production of IronMan 3, due out in 2013. Well that didn’t stop Marvel from providing a sneak look into the next film. The Ironman 3 booth at this years Comic-Con provided a preview of the next version of the legendary suite. Also on display was the entire Hall of Armor showcasing all of Tony Starks suites from the Mark 1 all the way to Mark 5. The marketing folks at Marvel asked us to light this HOA specifically for this event. Of course it is lit entirely with our Genuine VHO LED LiteRibbon and controls. I guess when Tony Stark chooses LED products, he chooses LiteGear. Ha! Have a look at the video from the guys at Wired Magazine.
